Bushel baskets are more standard than most people think. A full bushel basket is about 18 inches across the top and about 12 inches tall. A half bushel is about 14 inches across the top and about 9 inches tall. Those sizes have been the same for a long time because a bushel is a legal measure, not just a basket shape.
Full bushel: use a 22-inch lid
A lid for a full bushel basket should be a little wider than the basket rim so it sits flat and doesn't fall in. Our full bushel basket lid is about 22 inches across, which gives a couple of inches of overhang on each side.
Half bushel: use a 16-inch lid
Same idea for the smaller basket. Our half bushel basket lid is about 16 inches across.
How to measure your basket
- Measure straight across the top opening, outside edge to outside edge.
- About 18 inches means full bushel. About 14 inches means half bushel.
- If your basket has a wire handle, the handle folds down and the lid sits on top of the rim.
